Jesters Roving Players was born in 1993 out of a conversation between Jerry Zimmerman, Shari Hartsock and a few others about starting their own theater organization. They began by presenting Nunsense at the Grand Opera House in St. Marys (co-produced with Fort Findlay Playhouse). Their first independent show was Working in 1994. After a successful run and an even more successful try at OCTA competition, Working and Jesters Roving Players were selected to represent the US and Canada (North America) at the International Amateur Theatre Festival and Congress in Ankara, Turkey (summer of 1995).
The “roving” part of their name is precise as the group performed in many venues before finding a home at the Vaughnsville Community Center in Vaughnsville, Ohio. They continue to perform around the state whenever asked.
They have excerpted many of their productions and make it a point to excerpt one of their shows at the Northwest Regional festival each June. For a group so young, they have represented the Northwest Region at state eight different times in their 15-year existence.
The group currently does exclusively musicals with one in the spring and one in the fall. The fall show is also then performed at Wesley Glen Retirement Home as a benefit for the Wesley Glen Guild.
Jesters Roving Players is proud to be a member of the Ohio Community Theatre Association.
